We Need Spiritual Protection
The bird’s nest in our front porch light provided entertainment and spiritual lessons. It didn’t take long to get attached to those sweet little creatures. One day I was horrified to see the front porch filled with giant dark wings. The nest was under siege by a much larger, stronger, and more powerful crow. It made me think of John 10:10a
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.”
I did not want the spiritual analogy to end with how destructive Satan, our enemy, desires to be in our lives. Though the original assessment showed no sign of life, another spiritual analogy would arise as those babies began to peek up over the side of the nest! I’m so glad that John 10:10b goes on to say,
“I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”
The glass on the light fixture was shielding them, and the crow just couldn’t break through. What a picture of Jesus. Jeremiah 50:34a says,
“Their Redeemer is strong; the LORD of hosts is his name.”
And Psalm 5:12,
“For you bless the righteous, O LORD;
you cover him with favor as with a shield.”
Christ is the truth, and His truth shields us from Satan’s lies aimed at causing loss, death and destruction. Without that glass, those little birds would have been annihilated. Apart from Christ and His wisdom, we are toast again the enemy. But when our spiritual armor is in Christ and His teaching, the enemy doesn’t stand a chance.
“He will cover you with his pinions,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.”
Psalm 91:4
