Psalm 50: Thank God For Warnings!
Some churches have moved away from the God of the Bible. In trying to bring people in, they try to make Him more “palatable.” That’s a travesty. Because who He is, is the greatest One who could ever be. Everything about Him is wonderful. The more I learn, the more I want to know. They might scoot around a verse like today’s from Psalm 50:22,
“Mark this, then, you who forget God,
lest I tear you apart, and there be none to deliver!”
Analogies fall short, but imagine a parent telling their child not to run into the street. Obviously, the parent knows traffic could kill them. Someone without understanding could say the parent is being unreasonable, holding the child back from being their authentic self. They could paint the parent as overbearing and uncaring. And they would be wrong. Romans 6:23 says,
"For the wages of sin is death,
but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
God warns us that sin kills, because it does. He’s not being overbearing or holding back on us. He’s seeking to give us eternal life. Sin is targeted for God’s wrath. So He has warned us to separate from it, not run into it. The only way to separate from sin is to receive the gift of salvation in Christ. Souls will either come under the blood of Christ, or trample it. Psalm 36:1 says,
“Transgression speaks to the wicked
deep in his heart;
there is no fear of God
before his eyes.”
That is all of us before Christ! But when the Holy Spirit opens our eyes to the truth of the Gospel, we are given the gift of faith and made alive in Christ. Lord, thank You for warning us and for keeping us safe.
