Psalm 50: Seek the Lord
Let’s look again at the first part of Psalm 50:21 as we consider what we’re listening to and what we can do about it,
“These things you have done, and I have been silent;
you thought that I was one like yourself.”
The world clamors with inaccurate sound. God is patient, and as we’ve said, we ought not confuse His silence with acceptance. Though we have His written word with instruction on how He has ordained for His creation to live, most ignore it. Romans 1:20 says,
“For his invisible attributes,
namely, his eternal power and divine nature,
have been clearly perceived,
ever since the creation of the world,
in the things that have been made.
So they are without excuse.”
Nature itself declares the glory of the Creator and should stir us to seek truth. Though God rarely speaks audibly, He is always speaking through Scripture. He gives us the Holy Spirit to teach us about the One who is more interesting than anything He created. Hebrews 11:6 says,
"And without faith it is impossible to please him,
for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists
and that he rewards those who seek him.”
Rather than moving in our own wisdom, we need to seek out who He really is as revealed in His Word. We desperately need to hear Him. To seek God is to seek unspeakable marvel and truth. What an amazing thing that He rewards those who seek such wonder! May we be steadfast in our study of the Scriptures and honor the One who has preserved them for us to have. May we speak truthfully to His agenda and not defend another.
