Psalm 50: Worthy Of All Thanks
After telling us how things really are and presenting necessary warnings, Psalm 50 wraps up with,
“The one who offers thanksgiving as his sacrifice glorifies me;
to one who orders his way rightly
I will show the salvation of God!”
Psalm 50:23
What does He want from us? A thankful heart.
I love that He calls it a sacrifice that glorifies Him. It’s easy to be thankful when things are going great, but to be thankful when things are hard reveals a heart that trusts the One in charge. It’s opportunity for His people to reveal Him as He is.
Then the promise at the end of this Psalm is breathtaking. The thought of God showing us something should thrill us. It’s why I love to be in His wondrous Word. To whom will He show the salvation of God? To one who orders his way rightly. Jeremiah 10:23 says,
“I know, O LORD, that the way of man is not in himself,
that it is not in man who walks to direct his steps.”
Jeremiah 10:23
Knowing the way is not in us, and looking to Him is rightly ordered living. We also know the way we live does not gain our salvation.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith.
And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,
not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
Ephesians 2:8-9
A rightly ordered way would include bowing to the Creator, believing His Gospel, humbly and obediently walking with Him through Christ, seeking Him for wisdom and instruction, and offering thanksgiving at all times in all things. The One who owns it all has saved us and invited us in. Lord, thank You!
