Psalm 50: He Owns It All

“Hear, O my people, and I will speak;

O Israel, I will testify against you.

I am God, your God.

Not for your sacrifices do I rebuke you;

your burnt offerings are continually before me.

I will not accept a bull from your house

or goats from your folds.

For every beast of the forest is mine,

the cattle on a thousand hills.

I know all the birds of the hills,

and all that moves in the field is mine.”

Psalm 50:7-11

He has gathered us to hear this and one thing is very clear:

He is God.

This passage reminds me that I can be going through motions that I think are what God wants while my heart is off. No one wants a friend or loved one “going through the motions” rather than being genuinely engaged. He is so worthy of whole hearted devotion. Nothing and no one is more interesting and worthy to be sought after. Who He truly is, is thrilling.

We also see that whatever we give to God and His Kingdom work, came from Him to begin with. He needs nothing from us. He doesn’t need us, but He loves us and invites us into His family and therefore the family business. Anything we give to God whether time, possessions, etc. came from Him as a gift. It’s all His. I also love the reminder that the God of all Creation knows every creature on the planet, what they’re up to, and what’s going on.

Lord, align our hearts with truth. Cause us to serve you joyfully, knowing it all belongs to You; we belong to You. You have given us everything, so we can walk with You and serve in Your magnificent Kingdom. Thank You!
