Psalm 50: God Invites Us Into His Beauty
“Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty,
God shines forth.”
Psalm 50:2
Zion represents God’s presence and all the blessings that flow from Him. He is the perfection of beauty which is why we need more of Him, not less. Oh, Lord, shine forth!
Zion, Jerusalem, the Temple point to Jesus who is the Mediator between God and man. He is the only way to have true and eternal relationship with God. Salvation through Christ is the greatest gift a person could ever receive and is the door to His beauty. Psalm 27:4 says,
“One thing have I asked of the LORD,
that will I seek after:
that I may dwell in the house of the LORD
all the days of my life,
to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD
and to inquire in his temple.”
There is nothing wrong with outward beauty. But I’m thankful that it’s not what God is after. He wants His beauty, true beauty, to shine forth through us. 1 Peter 3:3-4 says,
“Do not let your adorning be external—
the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear—
but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart
with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit,
which in God’s sight is very precious.”
And then, especially as I age, I am thrilled by 2 Corinthians 4:16,
“So we do not lose heart.
Though our outer self is wasting away,
our inner self is being renewed day by day.”
As we worship and build our faith through Psalm 50, let’s ask Him to cause us to crave, seek, and enjoy His beauty and all that He is.
“Splendor and majesty are before him;
strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.”
Psalm 96:6
