Psalm 50: Beware of False Gospels

God speaks clearly in His Word about the need to be rescued from His wrath; from the penalty of sin. Beware of those who teach that there is no hell; that God is okay with your sin. It’s not loving. God made the way of rescue through Jesus, and there will be no excuse for those who reject His gift of eternal life; who reject His call for holiness. Look how God speaks to those who reject Him and teach a form of godliness that is not of Him. Notice He calls them wicked.

“But to the wicked God says:

‘What right have you to recite my statutes

or take my covenant on your lips?

For you hate discipline,

and you cast my words behind you.

If you see a thief, you are pleased with him,

and you keep company with adulterers.

You give your mouth free rein for evil,

and your tongue frames deceit.

You sit and speak against your brother;

you slander your own mother’s son.’”

Psalm 50:16-20

If you are speaking a gospel that is different than the one of Jesus Christ, you are giving your mouth free rein for evil. Your tongue is framing deceit. You are presenting a gospel that doesn’t save. 2 Timothy 3:13 says,

“…while evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse,

deceiving and being deceived.”

We see warnings we should heed, so we don’t follow them off the spiritual cliff. They hate discipline; don’t value God’s Word; normalize and approve of sin. How gracious of God to warn us! A love and fear of God will keep us true to His Word and His ways, with humble hearts that thrill at His grace and brilliance.

Lord, thank You for keeping us safe.
