Psalm 1 Part I Clarity!
Children are most secure when they have discipline and boundaries. Those left to their own devices know they are uncared for, which breeds instability and insecurity. Our good Father disciplines us and leads us in clarity. Psalm 1 is such an example of this. Verses 1-2 say,
“Blessed is the man
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
but his delight is in the law of the LORD,
and on his law he meditates day and night.”
The Lord makes clear what to avoid and what to bask in. He leads, and we follow. We tend to walk, stand, and sit in the things that delight us. If those things are opposed to God, we will find ourselves abiding by the counsel of the wicked which leads to walking in the way of sinners, and being comfortable with scoffers. Birds of a feather flock together.
But when we delight to hear from our Father – not seeking what we think we want to hear, but knowing His wisdom is what we need – we take it seriously, meditate on it, learn from it, and aim to institute it into our lives with His help through joyful obedience. It’s where the blessings are found.
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly,
teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom,
singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,
with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”
Colossians 3:16
Let’s anticipate the treasure we’ll find in Scripture and pray Psalm 119:18,
“Open my eyes, that I may behold
wondrous things out of your law.”
May Psalm 40:8 be true of us,
“I delight to do your will, O my God;
your law is within my heart.”
