Journeying In Genesis: You Didn’t Ask To Be Born
"And the LORD God planted a garden in Eden, in the east,
and there he put the man whom he had formed.”
Genesis 2:8
When God planted this garden, He didn’t plop all of mankind in and watch to see what each one could accomplish. God placed one individual that He had formed with a specific purpose in mind. Let’s finish looking at the Hebrew words from this verse:
“The man” is אדם (‘adam) – human being or individual.
“Whom” is אשר (‘asher) and connects “the man” to the next word.
“He had formed” is יצר (yatsar) – to mold into a form like a potter, to determine.
It’s about to get precious and personal with true self worth that the world just can’t manufacture. Your garden – your area of ministry among friends, family, people hard to get along with, work, school, trials, blessings, and every day living – was formed with the purposes of God in mind and you were placed in it.
You did not ask to be born. The God of all creation chose to form you. I know I’m not the only one who wonders exactly what God wants me to do. He reminds me to love Him with all of my heart, walk in humble obedience, and He will direct me in tending the garden so that His fruit can pop out – not mine. It is all about relationship with Him. Enjoy Him in the garden He planted for you, even when it’s hard, to accomplish His purposes which are for your good and His glory.
“You are my witnesses,” declares the LORD,
“and my servant whom I have chosen,
that you may know and believe me
and understand that I am he.
Before me no god was formed,
nor shall there be any after me.”
Isaiah 43:10
