Journeying In Genesis: Jesus in the Garden

“And the LORD God planted a garden in Eden, in the east,

and there he put the man whom he had formed.”

Genesis 2:8

Adam was a type of Him who was to come according to Romans 5:14. In his own wisdom, the first Adam failed and ushered sin into the garden. Christ would appear to restore, redeem, and complete the work. He would not fail.

“For as in Adam all die,

so also in Christ shall all be made alive.”

1 Corinthians 15:22

As God placed the first Adam, He knew there would be need for another appointment. Let’s move our gaze to a different garden, Gethsemane.

“Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane,

…he began to be sorrowful and troubled.

Then he said to them,

‘My soul is very sorrowful, even to death;

remain here, and watch with me.’

And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying,

‘My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me;

nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.’”

From Matthew 26:36-39

Let’s honor the One who tended his assigned garden perfectly, so that we could know delight and pleasure in His presence. He is the Light that shines to reveal truth and salvation. He stood against religion, culture, and the powers of darkness to guard the fences. He refused to move in the face of evil, betrayal, sorrow, trouble, humiliation, mocking, spitting, ridicule, torture, excruciation, and death. God had formed Him in Mary’s womb for just such a purpose. Fully God and fully Man. He is our prefect example and sacrifice, our Help, and our Savior. Glorifying His Father, He made a way – in His strength – for us to be successful in glorifying God in our gardens today.
