Journeying in Genesis: Stay Put

“And the LORD God planted a garden in Eden, in the east,

and there he put the man whom he had formed.”

Genesis 2:8

After truth was established and everything was prepared, the man was put in the garden. “He put,” is שומה (suwm) and also means appoint. This brings us back to Acts 17:26 where we learn that God has determined our pre-appointed times and the boundaries of our habitation. The best place for us, is right where He planned for us to be. We do well to “stay put” in His will at all times; to stay put in the truth of Biblical teaching.

Psalm 100:3 (NKJV) says,

“Know that the LORD, He is God;

It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;

We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.”

This is His story and this is His song. Through Christ, He puts us in His green pasture and leads us beside still waters, restores our souls, leading us in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. (Psalm 23:2–3) There we hear and obey, and remain in the delight and pleasure of His presence.

Some are leaving the truth of Scripture, and like leaves being blown by various doctrines, seek to align with the world. They don’t look different, because they don’t stay put. But imagine a leaf that is immovable during a hurricane. That would stand out! Let’s stand in the light of truth for the glory of our King. He is worthy. May it cause others to notice and come to know Him, too.

“Cast your burden on the Lord,

And He shall sustain you;

He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.”

Psalm 55:22
