Journeying in Genesis: We Are Sinners in Need of a Savior
“And he said,
‘I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid,
because I was naked, and I hid myself.’
He said,
‘Who told you that you were naked?
Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?’
The man said,
‘The woman whom you gave to be with me,
she gave me fruit of the tree, and I ate.’
Then the LORD God said to the woman,
‘What is this that you have done?’
The woman said,
‘The serpent deceived me, and I ate.’
Genesis 3:10-13
After the fall, God continued to bring light through questions. When God set Adam up to confess, Adam threw Eve under the bus, but ultimately blamed the very plan of God. Then God set Eve up to confess, and she blamed the serpent. We may see our own sinful natures in Adam and Eve, but we do not learn how to respond. Psalm 41:4 says,
“As for me, I said, ‘O LORD, be gracious to me;
heal me, for I have sinned against you!’”
That is a right response. I think the best description I’ve heard for sin is that it’s God abuse. David said in Psalm 51:4a,
“Against you, you only, have I sinned
and done what is evil in your sight…”
Sin separates us from the Giver of life. The first step toward the reconciliation Christ secured is owning that we are sinners in need of a Savior. If you belong to Him, He will convict so that we can repent and be cleansed. May we appreciate and practice 1 John 1:9,
“If we confess our sins,
he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins
and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
