Journeying in Genesis: Rest Applied

Thank you for sitting with me in this seventh day of creation. God certainly has the prerogative to give a command and say - because I said so. But the more we study God’s Word, the more we learn to appreciate His wisdom. Learning about this seventh day of creation has me wanting more than ever to value the Sabbath and keep it holy or set apart; to magnify the Lord of the Sabbath for completing the work to save me. He is worthy.

A theme lately has been “cease striving” or be still, as in Psalm 46:10,

“Be still, and know that I am God.

I will be exalted among the nations,

I will be exalted in the earth!”

And y’all, He will.

“Be still” is the Hebrew רָפָה râphâh meaning cease, let alone, be still. It reminds me not to serve, or try to heal, or figure things out, or do anything apart from Him. We all have hard things that come into our lives, and things we continue to cry out to Him about. This focus on His rest has been huge in aiding my mindset. When I’m anxious or sad or need help, I say to myself (based on all we have learned) - rest, it is finished. I can rest in my story, even if it’s not the one I would have written. We still grieve, pray, and do what He leads us to do, but remembering that the battle is ultimately won has helped a lot. He knows the beginning to the end, and still walks us through it.

“For by him all things were created,

in heaven and on earth,

visible and invisible,

whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—

all things were created through him and for him.”

Colossians 1:16
