Journeying in Genesis: Clarity Provides True Freedom

Let’s circle back and spotlight Genesis 1:27,

“So God created man in his own image,

in the image of God he created him;

male and female he created them.”

In His ordered brilliance, God created humans in His own image using male and female. We see so many things here including the genius of reproduction. God created the gift of sex. He gives us specific instruction for it – between a man and a woman in marriage. As I’ve heard it said, sex outside of that is like taking fire out of a fireplace and onto the living room floor. Even if you think you’re not being burned or causing others harm, you are defying the order of the Creator.

Sin entered and muddled what should be clear. It’s why I spend time in God’s Word. Apart from Him, we are all easy to fool. Some cultures say a boy can’t dance or a girl can’t be a mechanic. Specifying gender roles that aren’t Scriptural is confusing and causes harm. I want to be sensitive to those who genuinely struggle from gender dysphoria or those born with traits of both sexes. However, our culture is working to normalize confusion, rather than providing clarity and peace. If someone is dysphoric, to affirm their confusion and leave them there is not kind. Love them in it and speak truth. I’ve heard too many testimonies of those who were set free to find joy by reading our text for today in Genesis.

1 Corinthians 14:33a says, “For God is not the author of confusion but of peace…” God loves us and His order benefits us. He’s protective. I want to go out loving others as myself, not receiving praise from people. Let’s be peacemakers, not makers of confusion, by loving, helping, and affirming truth.
