Journeying in Genesis: Preparing for Life

Let’s continue to observe the work of our stunning Creator through His Word. So much has been accomplished, but there is still much to do as we look into day three.

“And God said,

‘Let the waters under the heavens

be gathered together into one place,

and let the dry land appear.’

And it was so.

God called the dry land Earth,

and the waters that were gathered together he called Seas.

And God saw that it was good.”

Genesis 1:9-10

Everything God does is good. I learned in Israel that they refer to any body or gathering of water as a sea. This won’t be all God does on this third day, but just look at the order He brings! The waters are gathered and dry land appears. It’s like a painter preparing his canvas. He is setting up a life-giving environment.

Graciously, He is doing that in hearts today. He alone can work in our sinful hearts to make them able to receive life-giving truth. James 1:21 says,

“Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness

and receive with meekness the implanted word,

which is able to save your souls.”

Let’s ask the Lord to do a mighty work in our hearts to make them fertile, well-watered soil for all He wants to plant there. If someone comes to mind who doesn’t yet know the Lord, ask Him to prepare their heart for the Gospel that it might be implanted to save their soul.

“ I will remove the heart of stone from their flesh

and give them a heart of flesh,

that they may walk in my statutes

and keep my rules and obey them.

And they shall be my people,

and I will be their God.”

Ezekiel 11:19b-20
