Journeying in Genesis: Abundant in Life and Beauty
God has been working wondrously in creation making it ready to be inhabited. On this third day He has moved to prepare the sea and dry land to sustain beauty and the necessities of life. Never has “so far, so good” been any more true. In perfect order, His voice resounds again:
“And God said,
‘Let the earth sprout vegetation,
plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit in which is their seed,
each according to its kind, on the earth.’
And it was so.
The earth brought forth vegetation,
plants yielding seed according to their own kinds,
and trees bearing fruit in which is their seed,
each according to its kind.
And God saw that it was good.
And there was evening and there was morning,
the third day.”
Genesis 1:11-13
What a day! Let’s praise the only One who could have done this with 1 Chronicles 16:31-34,
“Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice,
and let them say among the nations,
‘The LORD reigns!’
Let the sea roar, and all that fills it;
let the field exult, and everything in it!
Then shall the trees of the forest sing for joy
before the LORD, for he comes to judge the earth.
Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good;
for his steadfast love endures forever!”
What a journey as we witness God fashioning this world to be inhabited. I love that it was the third day that life abounded. It was on the third day that Jesus rose again and defeated death in the greatest victory ever won, to offer His beauty and abundant life to whomsoever will trust in Him! What a Creator. What a Savior. What a compassionate, mighty, holy, wonder-working God!
