Journeying in Genesis: More, More, More vs Abundance
In Genesis 1, we can’t miss God’s call for abundance, fruitfulness, and multiplication. This is not to be confused with the more, more, more of the world. More of anything apart from Him can become burdensome, drive us to be like that proverbial hamster on the wheel, give a false sense of satisfaction, or simply distract us from the Lord. Whether it’s more power, more wealth, or more likes on social media, the desire for more, more, more will weigh us down. But the abundance of Christ sets us free! God’s abundance refreshes and brings life.
Jesus said in John 10:10b, “I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” And though 2 Corinthians 1:5 lets us know we will share abundantly in His suffering, it also says we can share abundantly in comfort. Ephesians 3:20 reminds us that He is able to do far more abundantly than we could ask or think.
Psalm 65:11-13 says,
“You crown the year with Your goodness,
And Your paths drip with abundance.
They drop on the pastures of the wilderness,
And the little hills rejoice on every side.
The pastures are clothed with flocks;
The valleys also are covered with grain;
The shout for joy, they also sing.”
Life where there was no life; rejoicing, joy, and singing. When we walk in our own paths, we accomplish nothing for God’s Kingdom. But the paths of our Creator are so full of spiritual blessing and power, that every time we take a step in His ways, the abundance that is already dripping out, splashes out even more to spread His goodness and glory. So let’s keep taking that next step in Him, knowing it is being used to spread the abundant life in Christ.
