Journeying in Genesis: A Gracious Creator
I’m taken by God’s willingness to be so involved in creation. He has spoken and created living creatures to inhabit this viable canvas He made. He is setting the stage for the greatest redemption story ever told. Genesis 1:22-23 goes on to say,
“And God blessed them, saying,
‘Be fruitful and multiply
and fill the waters in the seas,
and let birds multiply on the earth.’
And there was evening and there was morning, the fifth day.”
God saw that it was good and blessed them. He spoke fruitfulness and multiplication before the close of the fifth day. This word blessed is the Hebrewבָּרַךְ bârak meaning to kneel. For us, we bless God as an act of adoration. When the blessing comes from Him it is a benefit. Every move of God toward creation is a stooping down; a gracious act.
Jesus came to bless in the most stunning move of grace ever known. The King left His throne to live as a human; to bless us. He came to buy back our spiritual fruitfulness that had been killed when sin entered. He came to bless the multiplication of souls that will live forever by receiving His free gift of grace through faith in Christ alone.
In John 8:6 the finger of God touched the earth when Jesus stooped down to write on the ground. He was rescuing a sinner – one of us. He was blessing a life that would turn on a dime to become spiritually beautiful and fruitful before her Creator. Jesus not only cares about life, He is Life.
Lord, thank You for stooping down to bless the living creatures and for blessing us with salvation.
“Bless the LORD, O my soul,
and all that is within me,
bless his holy name!”
Psalm 103:1
