Journeying in Genesis: According To Its Kind

Let’s look at these phrases in our creation passage for important spiritual truth:

“each according to its kind,”

“according to their own kinds,”

and “according to its kind.”

I remember studying about Aaron’s rod budding and bearing almonds in Numbers 17:8. I was praying about whether the almonds were significant. Why almonds? The answer came simply and practically. It was from an almond branch. The fruit we bear, and the seed we spread, are indicators of what kind we are. To state the obvious, apple trees produce apples and spread apple seeds. Hebrews 2:10 says,

“For it was fitting that he,

for whom and by whom all things exist,

in bringing many sons to glory,

should make the founder of their salvation perfect through suffering.”

Humans were created in God’s image to spread His glory over the earth. Before multiplication of mankind got going, the Serpent brought sin into the picture. As a sister in India explained it to me, it caused mankind to look less like God and more like Satan. So Christ came to redeem us! In spreading the Gospel, more and more hearts have opportunity to return to their purpose: to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.

I have a long way to go, but because of Jesus, I can rejoice in the promise of 1 John 3:2,

“Beloved, we are God's children now,

and what we will be has not yet appeared;

but we know that when he appears we shall be like him,

because we shall see him as he is.”

This side of eternity we battle Satan, the world, and our own flesh. All three bear fruit after their kind. The Holy Spirit helps us fight the good fight, so we can abide in Christ and bear fruit that glorifies God!
