Is It Built By God?

My Dad is a mechanical engineer and loves to build. We tease him, because whatever the code for structurally sound might be, he exceeds it. He built some bookcases in our garage, and we decided that if a tornado comes through, we will climb into those shelves. They were built to stand.

So just think of the strength of something built by our Heavenly Father! It will be a sound place where we remain spiritually safe and secure. Ephesians 2:19-22 says,

“Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners,

but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God,

having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets,

Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone,

in whom the whole building,

being fitted together,

grows into a holy temple in the Lord,

in whom you also are being built together

for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.”

The building is for Him and through Him. Notice how the Old and New Testament are both vital in the building. Hebrews 11:10 reminds us that we wait for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God. How gracious of Jesus to Himself be our Cornerstone!

Those things not of God are scheduled for demolition. 1 Corinthians 7:31 says this world is passing away. There is no safety in that. Let’s anchor in Christ, our only Savior and sure foundation, from which no flood or trial can knock us out.

Is it built by God? That’s a good question when we think of the things on which we rely. Let’s stand in the strength and safety of the truth of the Gospel. When the Cornerstone is the One through whom all things were created, you can be sure that it will stand for all eternity.
