Advent Day Twenty-Three: If Jesus Had Not Come, We Could Not Be Clean

Once people lived fully clean. There was no pollution, and the people themselves were pure. But a Serpent brought flattering words, and they exchanged holiness for what would contaminate. They were now filthy and unable to clean themselves.

What if Jesus had not come? We would be forever in the filth of sin, the horror of shame and guilt, restless and without comfort.

But Jesus did come!

“…and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.”

1 John 1:7

By trusting in the sacrifice of Christ on the cross, we are once again able to love and serve our good and pure King!

“…how much more will the blood of Christ,

who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God,

purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.”

Hebrews 9:14

“…let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith,

with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience

and our bodies washed with pure water.”

Hebrews 10:22

Oh, what He has done! Let’s honor and believe Him like David when he wrote Psalm 51:7,

“Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;

wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.”

Imagine trying to get comfortable while filthy, stinky, and sticky. That helps us understand what’s going on spiritually. Our sin has made us unclean, and He wants to cleanse us. Let’s live as the forgiven and refreshed of God!

Our warning is,

“There are those who are clean in their own eyes

but are not washed of their filth.”

Proverbs 30:12

He made a way, the only way, through the blood of Christ. Do not try to cleanse yourself apart from Him.

Lord, thank You for the blood of Christ that cleanses us. May many choose Your offer to cleanse!
