Advent Day Twenty-Two: If Jesus Had Not Come, We Would Not Know Redemption
People once lived in a land of delight and pleasure. There was nothing to harm. Their relationships with the Sovereign and each other were glorious. All their dreams were met, and they lacked nothing. But a villain lured them into high treason, and they lost everything.
What if Jesus had not come? The excruciating loss would be forever. The misery of what could have been, would plague us for all eternity.
But Jesus did come! In ancient Israel, a redeemer was a relative close enough to buy back what was lost. No one is closer to us than Jesus, and He has made a way to redeem everything lost in the fall. The King we betrayed, suffered to buy it all back.
"O Israel, hope in the LORD!
For with the LORD there is steadfast love,
and with him is plentiful redemption.”
Psalm 130:7
Not just redemption, but plentiful redemption!
We all have things we’ve done or had done to us that can’t be made right this side of eternity. But we have His promise that they will. If we have to wait until eternity for the redemption, just imagine the undeserved plentiful waiting for us!
“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes,
and death shall be no more,
neither shall there be mourning,
nor crying,
nor pain anymore,
for the former things have passed away.
And he who was seated on the throne said,
‘Behold, I am making all things new.’”
Revelation 21:4-5a
Our warning comes from Hebrews 2:3a. After all Christ has done to redeem, can you even imagine the fate of those who reject His offer?
“…how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation?”
Lord, may we believe You and receive Your gracious redemption with joy!
