Advent Day Three: If Jesus Had Not Come, There Would Be No Light
Once upon a time a people existed in darkness. Oh, the sun, moon, and stars still provided physical light, but sin had snuffed out spiritual light.
“Some sat in darkness and in the shadow of death,
prisoners in affliction and in irons,
for they had rebelled against the words of God,
and spurned the counsel of the Most High.”
Psalm 107:10-11
What if Christ had not come? The misery that darkness disperses would be palpable. We couldn’t see what is true and right. It would be impossible to find the way back to the King.
But Jesus did come!
“The people who walked in darkness
have seen a great light;
those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness,
on them has light shone.”
Isaiah 9:2
“In him was life, and the life was the light of men.
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
John 1:4-5
Lord, please flood us with Your light today. Keep us hungry for Your priceless Word to strengthen us to serve You in wisdom. May we grow in our dependence on You and refuse to dabble in darkness.
“Your word is a lamp to my feet
and a light to my path.”
Psalm 119:105
Our gracious warning comes from Revelation 16:10-11. Here Satan’s kingdom is plunged into darkness where people gnaw their tongues in anguish and curse God rather than repent. John 3:19 explains why this happens in order to wake us up,
“And this is the judgment:
the light has come into the world,
and people loved the darkness rather than the light
because their works were evil.”
Lord, You offer transfer from that darkness into light. Cause many to choose light!
