Advent Day Two: If Jesus Had Not Come, There Would Be No Life
Once upon a time, God created the heavens and the earth. And it was good. There was delight as humans shared in the life of the Creator. They glorified Him as they enjoyed creation with Him. They were warned that if they partook of a certain tree, they would die. At the behest of a deceiving villain, they themselves became villains against the good Creator and partook anyway. In a tragic turn of events, disorder entered and they lost right relationship with the King. Their physical bodies would continue for a time, but spiritual death had come.
What if Christ had not come? Every human would forever know eternal death. No spiritual life would ever again ignite in a human heart. Redemption and refreshment would be lost on us. Our eternal death sentence could not be overturned.
But He did come! Mercy flows from the mouth of our Hero as He says,
“I came that they may have life
and have it abundantly.”
John 10:10b
By putting our trust in Christ, we are made spiritually alive! Our lives are no longer our own, but a gift to offer back to the King for the furtherance of His campaign. Lord, may we rejoice that You have given us eternal life. Help us to live each day for You that others might find life in Christ, too. Please don’t let us squander the time you’ve given us with the distractions of this temporary life.
And here is our gracious warning for the future before it’s too late,
“Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life;
whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life,
but the wrath of God remains on him.”
John 3:36
Lord, cause many to choose life! Jesus, thank You for coming.
