Trusting God’s Plan
A sweet, little cat showed up around my daughter’s apartment in downtown Nashville. Still a kitten, she was already pregnant. Being kitten season, no rescue organization would take a pregnant cat. Finally finding a foster home, catching her became the issue. And it failed. Then the foster home fell through. As I prayed and cheered on from Atlanta, my daughter reminded me of that all important lesson: we have no control. We would leave it to the One who created this kitten to do what was best; even if it would not unfold like we hoped.
Our spiritual analogy is two-fold.
First, whatever scenario we’re in, we have every reason to trust God’s plan. It may not unfold like we hoped, but it will be better, spiritually speaking, than anything we could have come up with. His ways are higher, kinder, and more God-honoring than ours. We know they are good, even if circumstances scream otherwise.
Second, God’s timing is a very important part of the plan. He is always working in ways we can’t imagine. I love this quote from my friend Ann Wood, “We don’t want to run ahead of God, because things will not yet be in place that need to be there.” Now, that’s a sobering reason to cool our jets and wait on Him.
“To God our Savior,
Who alone is wise,
Be glory and majesty,
Dominion and power,
Both now and forever.
Amen.”
Jude 1:25
