Saga Of A Kitten Rescue Part IV: Ebenezer

When my daughter first found the hungry, pregnant kitten in downtown Nashville, every possible landing spot – even if she caught her – kept turning up negative. Once we’re aware of an animal in crisis, it’s hard to let it go. I was walking and praying for the Lord’s help, when the idea of the exact room in our house (large closet with a window) came to mind. Along with that came the name Abigail, which seemed perfect for her. I cleaned out the room, the timing of the delivery was perfect, and the adventure began.

But the hopeful homes for the kittens kept falling through, and eventually I became concerned that my next trial might be having six cats. So this is what I want to share. The journey of this kitten rescue just seemed orchestrated. Every now and then, when I would worry and not know what to do next, the word “Ebenezer” would pop in my mind. I knew it came from 1 Samuel 7:12,

“Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen

and called its name Ebenezer;

for he said, ‘Till now the LORD has helped us.’”

Ebenezer means stone of help. I knew the Lord was telling me He had not brought me this far to fail me now. And this is what He says to all of His children. No matter how things unfold He promises in Romans 8:28,

“And we know that for those who love God

all things work together for good,

for those who are called according to his purpose.”

Whatever you’re going through right now, if you’re in Christ, remember – Ebenezer. God is orchestrating and has a plan. He has not brought you this far to fail you now.
