Psalm 2 Part II: The Lord’s Reaction to a World Raging Against Him

God’s Kingdom is one of joy, peace, and righteousness. Satan’s is one of deception, temporary pleasure, devastation, and it is crumbling as we speak. Oh, the safety and security we are afforded when the grace of God transfers us from the kingdom of darkness into the safety of His glorious and unshakeable Kingdom through Christ! God is never wringing His hands or taken by surprise. Look at His reaction to the rebellious world raging against Him in Psalm 2:4,

“He who sits in the heavens laughs;

the Lord holds them in derision.”

The Hebrew gives the picture of mocking or making sport of those who would strive to do such a thing. God will not be mocked. They think their wisdom is greater. Their agenda is ludicrous. Psalm 2:5 goes on to say,

“Then he will speak to them in his wrath,

and terrify them in his fury, saying,”

This wake up call is so kind. Some churches think they are being nice by avoiding mention of sin or God’s wrath. But it leaves their listeners without warning to avoid it. There’s a time when being scared straight is a blessing of great reward. His mercy is astounding.

So what does He say to those raging that’s so terrifying?

“As for me, I have set my King

on Zion, my holy hill.”

Psalm 2:6

The flag has been planted. They may be raging against His righteous rule, but it is too late. The plan was set before time began. Jesus Christ is King of kings and has already been anointed to rule forever. They set themselves against God, but He has done some setting of His own. Jesus! Magnificent Savior to those who bow the knee to the Gospel; terrifying to those opposed.

Our God is greater!
