Psalm 2 Part I: The Way It Is

The Lord knows the plans He has. It builds our faith to see things prophesied thousands of years before they happen. Psalm 2 sounds like today’s news, while it’s as old as sin entering the Garden. Verse 1 says,

“Why do the nations rage

and the peoples plot in vain?”

Why indeed! God created all things, is in control, and will reign forever and ever. But the world system moves as though He did not, is not, and will not. It operates as if man is his own god and controls his own destiny. The world does not fear God, and the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. While nations rage against one another, and people certainly make vain plans, we’ll see in Verses 2-3 who they are actually raging against.

“The kings of the earth set themselves,

and the rulers take counsel together,

against the LORD and against his Anointed, saying,

‘Let us burst their bonds apart

and cast away their cords from us.’”

Can you imagine wanting to burst any connection to the only source of life, love, hope, and light? That’s all of us before we are redeemed in Christ. We lack understanding, and we lack fear of God until He opens our eyes to understand we are sinners in need of His gift of salvation. We’ll continue to learn from this Psalm in our upcoming posts, and we can be sure it will be good news for those who do not oppose our good Creator. His ways are perfect and His Gospel is good news! May we not be those wanting to break away from Him, but those drawing ever nearer.
