Journeying in Genesis: Would God Bring Enmity?
“I will put enmity between you and the woman,
and between your offspring and her offspring;
he shall bruise your head,
and you shall bruise his heel.”
Genesis 3:15
Would God bring enmity? Of course He would. This is war. We saw Him bring glorious division when He separated light from darkness. Evil had entered, and God provides victory over it. We can see in nature that humans bruise the heads of snakes. And snakes who travel on the ground tend to strike at the heel.
But this points to an even more glorious moment. The woman’s offspring would lead to Jesus. He would come in the flesh as a man to save us. His feet would be nailed to a cross, but that would be the very thing that would crush Satan’s power over us. For those who think there is no hell, Jesus came to offer the way of escape. The Prince of Peace said in Matthew 10:34,
“Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth.
I have not come to bring peace, but a sword.”
There can be no peace with evil. Matthew 25:31-46 tells us that He will separate His own from those who have rejected Him. For those who are His, Psalm 91:13 declares,
You will tread on the lion and the adder;
the young lion and the serpent you will trample underfoot.
He has won for us the victory over Satan, sin, and death. May we rejoice and serve Him with zeal! Soon Jesus will come again, and we will see the full manifestation of the enemy’s defeat.
“The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.”
Romans 16:20
