Journeying in Genesis: Remembering Who We Are and Who He Is
As we’ve studied creation, I’m struck by the obvious. God made it all, set it in order, and can do with it as He pleases. We are wise when we look to Him to learn and find direction; when we remember He is worthy of all glory, honor, and praise.
I weary of humanism that gives humans the glory as if we had no Creator. Yet He is our help and defender; the King and only Savior! If we truly value people, we’ll remember who we really are, and who God really is. Sin tainted the image bearers, but rather than wipe us out, He made a way through the cross to redeem us; to give us joy and purpose. His mercy, love, and kindness are astounding.
Psalm 100:3 reminds us,
“Know that the LORD, he is God!
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.”
Of Him, Jeremiah 32:17 rightly says,
“Ah, Lord GOD!
It is you who have made the heavens and the earth
by your great power and by your outstretched arm!
Nothing is too hard for you.”
One of my favorite verses is Psalm 103:14,
“For he knows our frame;
he remembers that we are dust.”
What a relief! As far as bringing Him glory, He has made a way for those who bow the knee to the Gospel. 2 Corinthians 4:7 says of believers who now have the Holy Spirit dwelling in them,
“But we have this treasure in jars of clay,
to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.”
Dust creatures, now invited to be joint heirs with the One through whom we were created! Now, that’s good news.
