Journeying in Genesis: A Fruitful Garden

As we continue to learn about God through creation, we’ll spend some time meditating on our next verse. God had created all that is, and then He Himself planted a garden. Genesis 2:8 says,

“And the LORD God planted a garden in Eden, in the east,

and there he put the man whom he had formed.”

As believers in Christ, we are all ministers. Some are called into full-time ministry to equip God’s sheep, but all of us will find our ministries in our every day lives whether at work, home, service, or recreation. Whatever our ministries may be, God has planted us there and He wants them to be like watered, bountiful gardens. 1 Corinthians 12:4-6 says,

“Now there are varieties of gifts,

but the same Spirit;

and there are varieties of service,

but the same Lord;

and there are varieties of activities,

but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone.”

It’s a game-changer when we remember that this is all about God, not us. But we are invited into the adventure by grace through faith, because of His great love for us! In John 15:8 Jesus said,

“By this my Father is glorified,

that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples.”

Christ is our Living Water. Apart from Him, our gardens will dry up and fail to produce for God’s glory. So let’s “bloom where we’re planted,” fully nourished and watered in Christ, so the fruit of the Lord can be produced through us.

“And the LORD will guide you continually

and satisfy your desire in scorched places

and make your bones strong;

and you shall be like a watered garden,

like a spring of water,

whose waters do not fail.”

Isaiah 58:11
