Journeying in Genesis: Making the Most of our Days

“And God said,

‘Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens

to separate the day from the night.

And let them be for signs and for seasons,

and for days and years,

and let them be lights in the expanse of the heavens

to give light upon the earth.’

And it was so.”

Genesis 1:14-15

Not only will the working of the fourth day of creation be just what the plants need, it will separate day from night, will be for signs and seasons, days and years, and light on the earth. God, who inhabits eternity, gave us a way to tell time. We join in the prayer of Psalm 90:12,

“So teach us to number our days

that we may get a heart of wisdom.”

Jesus warned in Luke 12:56,

“You hypocrites!

You know how to interpret the appearance of earth and sky,

but why do you not know how to interpret the present time?”

So we look to the One who created all we see to help us.

“Look carefully then how you walk,

not as unwise but as wise,

making the best use of the time,

because the days are evil.”

Ephesians 5:15-16

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness,

and all these things will be added to you.

Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow,

for tomorrow will be anxious for itself.

Sufficient for the day is its own trouble."

Matthew 6:33-34

Feel free to add more verses in the comments that speak to our living out these temporary lives, abiding in Him, until we see Him face to face. May we make the most of our time here enjoying, obeying, and glorifying Him whether at work, rest, or play!
