Journeying in Genesis: A Flowing River

“A river flowed out of Eden to water the garden,

and there it divided and became four rivers.

The name of the first is the Pishon.

It is the one that flowed around the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold.

And the gold of that land is good; bdellium and onyx stone are there.

The name of the second river is the Gihon.

It is the one that flowed around the whole land of Cush.

And the name of the third river is the Tigris, which flows east of Assyria.

And the fourth river is the Euphrates.”

Genesis 2:10-14

The river flowed through and out of Eden. It was full of treasure and an abundant life source. If you’re a believer you are meant to be a conduit of pure, treasure-filled spiritual water that flows only from Jesus.

In Genesis 13:10, Lot and Abraham needed to separate. Lot saw a well watered land “like the garden of the Lord.” He should have done more research, because he walked right into Sodom and Gomorrah. False religion can look good, but it robs people of eternal life. In Revelation 8:10-11, a great star named Wormwood fell from heaven making a third of the water bitter and bringing death to many. But in Exodus 15:22–25 the nation of Israel needed water and found only a bitter source. The Lord showed Moses a tree which when thrown into the waters made them sweet. Run from Wormwood and embrace the Tree of Life!

James 3:11 asks, “Does a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening?” Obviously not.

Lord, let the waters flowing through and from our lives, be the Living Water of Jesus that refreshes and leads others to You.
