Don’t Lose Heart
Have you ever signed a petition in order to appeal to someone, because they had the power to do something about your request? There can be great effect in petition.
We’re told in Scripture to pray with supplication, which means petition. Through prayer, we get to take our petitions to the ultimate power, God Himself. You talk about Someone who has the power to do something about it!
There’s a parable in Luke 18:1-8. Jesus tells of a judge who didn’t fear God or care about people. But a widow that needed something would not stop asking him to help. He finally helped with her petition, because he could see she wasn’t going to leave him alone, and could harm his reputation. How much more will our Father provide help for those who ask Him!
In Luke 18:1 Jesus gives us the point,
“And he told them a parable
to the effect that they ought always to pray
and not lose heart.”
It can be tempting to lose heart. But when we remember where our petition has landed through prayer, our hearts are strengthened. The widow knew the judge had the power to do what she was asking, and she was not giving up. We know that God has the power to do what we are asking, and loves us enough to correct us if our petition is not what we really need to be asking. Praying about – instead of meditating on – our petitions will make all the difference. As Psalm 62:11b says,
“…power belongs to God…”
Let’s run to Him for, with, and about everything!
