Awestruck Wonder - Day One: The God of Peace
“Now may the God of peace
who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead,
that great Shepherd of the sheep,
through the blood of the everlasting covenant,
make you complete in every good work to do His will,
working in you what is well pleasing in His sight,
through Jesus Christ,
to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.”
Hebrews 13:20-21 NKJV
These verses hit with awestruck wonder. Let’s ask the Holy Spirit to spotlight treasure, teach us, and transform us as we chew over these glorious truths the next few days. We’ll start with a stunning insight coming out of the gate.
God is a God of peace.
We see in the creation narrative that God can turn darkness, chaos, and confusion into light, order, and clarity with great beauty. There’s none like Him. When sin entered the Garden of Eden the order was marred. The human race was no longer prone to live their purpose of spreading the glory of God. They were now in rebellion and spiritually dead. But God had a plan of salvation in place to bring peace.
Just look at Him.
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us,
in that while we were still sinners,
Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:8
With the gift of faith, we give Him our sin and He gives us His righteousness through the cleansing blood of Christ! This causes us to be children of God, friends of God, and at peace with God.
God will not make peace with evil. Evil will graciously be targeted by His wrath. Now is the time to receive the offer of peace through the Gospel. Today is the day of salvation! May we joyfully spread this good news as peacemaking servants.
Tomorrow we’ll gaze at another breathtaking wonder. But let’s finish today by rejoicing in Romans 5:10-11,
“For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son,
much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.
And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
through whom we have now received the reconciliation.”
