Awestruck Wonder - Day Five: He Makes Us Complete To Do His Will

“Now may the God of peace

who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead,

that great Shepherd of the sheep,

through the blood of the everlasting covenant,

make you complete in every good work to do His will,

working in you what is well pleasing in His sight,

through Jesus Christ,

to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.”

Hebrews 13:20-21 NKJV

We’ve been celebrating that God offered peace when we were still enemies through the sacrifice of His Son. He raised Jesus from the dead and invited us into His pasture through the blood of the everlasting covenant. The writer of Hebrews is praying that they, and we, would be made complete in every good work to do the will of this God of completion.

We won’t be perfect this side of eternity, but He is working to make us more like Christ. We don’t have to think of ways to work for Him. We simply abide in Him, hear, and obey. Ephesians 2:10 says,

“For we are His workmanship,

created in Christ Jesus for good works,

which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”

He already has the plan and knows our parts. We’ve been invited in through Christ, and we participate as He works through us. We find our completion in Christ.

I take comfort in Philippians 1:6 which gives confidence that the work He has begun in us He will complete until the day of Jesus Christ. It doesn’t say until our last breath, but the day of Christ. My sister in Christ, Teresa Skepple, passed away last year. But not before finishing her latest book Unhinged No More. It was published after she passed. It, and so much of her life story, are still bringing glory to God as He completes every good work He began in her to do His will until Christ comes again.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 reminds us how vital His Word is in this,

“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God,

and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,

that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work."
