Advent Day Ten: If Jesus Had Not Come, We Would Have No Assurance

Once a people lived in full assurance that all would be well, if they simply heeded the warning to not partake of the fruit of a certain tree. The Kingdom was unshakeable. But in a move of great betrayal, they partook. They now found themselves in a crumbling kingdom of darkness.

What if Jesus had not come? We would have no assurance that all would be well. We would be trapped in a shaky kingdom whose only assurance was misery.

But Jesus did come!

And because He came Colossians 1:13-14 declares,

“He has delivered us from the domain of darkness

and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son,

in whom we have redemption,

the forgiveness of sins.”

The betrayed King undid what we could not. Hebrews 12:28 says,

“Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken,

and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe…”

Hebrews 11:1 says,

“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for,

the conviction of things not seen.”

God has offered great things, and He expects to be believed. This is not a blind faith. This is a Holy Spirit opening of the eyes assurance. We should be refreshing examples of secure and grateful people who have been rescued from horror, sharing the way with others.

Our warning comes from Deuteronomy 28:66 as it describes those who refuse God’s ways. It also describes those who reject Jesus. It says,

“Your life shall hang in doubt before you.

Night and day you shall be in dread

and have no assurance of your life.”

Lord, thank You for our rescue and full assurance in Christ! May many today choose that full assurance and be delivered from insecurity and fear.
