Advent Day Seven: If Jesus Had Not Come, We Could Not Taste His Goodness
Once upon a time, people lived with perfect senses to enjoy the wonder of creation. They also had heightened spiritual senses to enjoy their Creator. When they committed high treason, spiritual death meant the loss of those spiritual senses.
What if Jesus had not come? We would be spiritually blind, deaf, and without the ability to enjoy the King’s fragrance. We would not be able to partake and taste of His goodness.
But Jesus did come!
By trusting Him for salvation, we are now able to,
“Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good!
Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!”
Psalm 34:8
By the grace of God, He tasted death for us, so we could be made spiritually alive to declare,
“How sweet are your words to my taste,
sweeter than honey to my mouth!”
Psalm 119:103
Today we are required to live as salt on this earth as witnesses. Colossians 4:6 tells us to,
“Let your speech always be gracious,
seasoned with salt,
so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.”
Our warning for the future is that our appetite should be for things of the Spirit, eternal things, not things of the flesh. Some are twisting Scripture to live however they want, rather than tasting and seeing that it is the Lord Himself who satisfies. Philippians 3:18-19 says,
“For many,
of whom I have often told you
and now tell you even with tears,
walk as enemies of the cross of Christ.
Their end is destruction,
their god is their belly,
and they glory in their shame,
with minds set on earthly things."
Lord, may we be salty as Your witnesses, that many would choose to taste and experience the satisfying goodness of You!
