Advent Day Eight: If Jesus Had Not Come, We Would Not Know His Touch
In the beginning, people knew the physical and spiritual touch of their Creator. He walked and talked with them. Sin entered and they became separated from that comforting touch.
What if Jesus had not come? We would be forever without His spiritual comfort. We would reach out and never be able to touch Him. Sin’s worst consequence is separation from God.
But Jesus did come!
He came in the flesh to rescue us from sin’s effects. God could be physically touched!
“That which was from the beginning,
which we have heard,
which we have seen with our eyes,
which we looked upon
and have touched with our hands,
concerning the word of life—“
1 John 1:1
Luke 6:19 reveals the desperation of the people,
“And all the crowd sought to touch him,
for power came out from him and healed them all.”
Jesus touched children, and laid His hands on the sick. He touched the deaf, dumb, lame, and blind. He even touched lepers. If you have put your trust in Christ, Psalm 73:23 is true of you,
“Nevertheless, I am continually with you;
you hold my right hand.”
I can’t physically feel Him touching me. When I need a physical touch He does it through people. But we know His touch spiritually as He holds us, cares for, and comforts us. Let’s be His hands and feet for others. Let’s ask Him to cause us to thrill at His touch.
Our warning comes from Romans 1:18,
“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven
against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men,
who by their unrighteousness
suppress the truth.”
Lord, wake many souls up today that they might choose Your saving touch now, rather than the touch of Your wrath when it’s too late.
