Ushering Thoughts
Most of us have seen or been the person who is in the wrong seat at an event. An usher checks the ticket and ushers them out. Everyone lands where they should, and order it kept.
What if we were that careful with our thoughts? We are often disciplined in what we allow into our bodies, but less disciplined when it comes to our minds. Matthew 7:21-22 says,
"For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts,
sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting,
wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness.”
The way we think can usher in grievous sin, fear, resentment, and delusion. These unhealthy thoughts are sitting where healthy thoughts should be. Let’s check those tickets, so to speak, and usher out harmful thoughts.
If a thought is of God then usher it in to stay seated! Philippians 4:8 shows us what to check: Is it true? Honorable? Just? Pure? Lovely? Commendable? Excellent? Worthy of praise? 2 Corinthians 10:5 says if it argues with or exalts itself against the knowledge of God, usher it out.
Our thoughts should be on things above, and stayed on the Lord. (Colossians 3:2, Isaiah 26:3) If we are loving God with all of our heart, soul, and mind, as commanded in Matthew 22:37, then there is not room for a thought that doesn’t have a “ticket” in that arena.
Our God loves and cares for us. He makes it clear in Romans 8:6,
“For to set the mind on the flesh is death,
but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.”
Proverbs 28:26 reminds us we need His help,
“Whoever trusts in his own mind is a fool,
but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered.”
