Psalm 2 Part III: A Glorious Decree
In Psalm 2 we learn what’s going on in this volatile world. It settles our hearts with truth, so that we know where to stand. Listen to this magnificent decree in Verses 7-9,
“I will tell of the decree:
The LORD said to me, ‘You are my Son;
today I have begotten you.
Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage,
and the ends of the earth your possession.
You shall break them with a rod of iron
and dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.’”
After all Jesus has done for us, I love to hear Him glorified like this. Then Romans 8:17 proclaims,
“…and if children, then heirs—
heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ,
provided we suffer with him
in order that we may also be glorified with him.”
So even as we rejoice in what is given to the Son, we are invited in. It is sobering and humbling as Jesus says in Revelation 2:25-27,
“Only hold fast what you have until I come.
The one who conquers and who keeps my works until the end,
to him I will give authority over the nations,
and he will rule them with a rod of iron,
as when earthen pots are broken in pieces,
even as I myself have received authority from my Father.”
I’m so thankful that Isaiah 9:6 assures us the eternal government will be upon His glorious shoulders. Hebrews 1:8-9 says,
“But of the Son he says,
‘Your throne, O God, is forever and ever,
the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom.
You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness;
therefore God, your God, has anointed you
with the oil of gladness beyond your companions.’”
Reign Lord Jesus!
