Preparing Our Hearts for the Holidays V: Be Thankful
On this Thanksgiving Day in America, wherever you may reside, let’s put some spiritual muscle into truly giving thanks to our Creator and Savior. Looking again at Colossians 3:15 we read,
“And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts,
to which indeed you were called in one body.
And be thankful.”
That command to be thankful might just be the litmus test for what’s ruling in our hearts. Let’s settle our hearts in truth, so that we remain thankful. The human condition is prone to unthankfulness, so our gracious King reminds us to,
“Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,
And into His courts with praise.
Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.”
Psalm 100:4
Is your assignment hard today? Thank Him for such a privilege to serve Him and be thankful even in the trial. It will honor the One who so very much deserves it, and will guard your heart from harm. Whether today is busy and fun, calm and enjoyable, or dreadfully sorrowful – we have much to look forward to because of Jesus.
"Say also:
‘Save us, O God of our salvation,
and gather and deliver us from among the nations,
that we may give thanks to your holy name
and glory in your praise.’”
1 Chronicles 16:35
As we continue in the holiday season, the tradition of Advent will give us daily opportunity to be thankful; to set our hearts in truth; to give our hearts reason to thrill. I can’t wait to share a theme I’ve been meditating on for weeks, as we focus on a vital part of the story of all stories.
Happy Thanksgiving!
