Journeying in Genesis: Walking the Perimeter

"And the LORD God planted a garden in Eden, in the east,

and there he put the man whom he had formed.”

Genesis 2:8

As we consider the spiritual fences God provides through His commands, I couldn’t help but think of my granddog, Duke. He would go out each morning and peruse the perimeter of the fenced in yard. What a great way to start the day! Let’s ask the Lord to walk the perimeter of our lives and show us missing or faulty fencing. He loves to keep us safe.

“And I will be to her a wall of fire all around, declares the LORD,

and I will be the glory in her midst.”

Zechariah 2:5

Diligent farmers, gardeners, or ranchers keep an eye on their fences for the sake of all that has been entrusted to them. Our spiritual fences are not just about our own welfare, but the welfare of those people and things God has put in our charge. Through prayer and obedience to God’s Word, let’s strengthen our fences, and make sure our perimeter is genuinely of God.

Our Lord is the perfect protector. When we realize we are walking outside of God’s ways, repent! There is always hope, refreshment, and renewal in Christ. He loves to snatch us out of the enemy’s snare and rebuild those fences. Allow Ezekiel 36:35 to encourage you in His ability to cleanse, set right, and restore,

“And they shall say,

This land that was desolate is become like the garden of Eden;

and the waste and desolate and ruined cities are become fenced, and are inhabited.”

May our lives, homes, schools, churches, and communities find safety in God’s wisdom and truth.
