Advent Day Thirteen: If Jesus Had Not Come, We Would Not Have Peace
Once there was a peaceful land. The King walked among His people, and they delighted in each other. But a deceiver convinced them to rebel. They found themselves aligned with evil and at war with the good King.
What if Jesus had not come? We would forever be estranged and separated from our Creator. We would remain in the camp that wars against Him. We would never know soul satisfying peace.
But Jesus did come!
He suffered to offer His enemies full pardon, peace, and entrance into His camp. What a stunning turn of events! John 15:16 says,
“No longer do I call you servants,
for the servant does not know what his master is doing;
but I have called you friends,
for all that I have heard from my Father
I have made known to you.”
John 15:16
What amazing grace! We who were enemies, have become friends through His blood. Friends who are told what His plans are, and have opportunity to serve the One who offered peace when we deserved eternal damnation. May our lives reflect that wonder!
Our warning is in James 4:4b,
“Do you not know that friendship with the world
is enmity with God?
Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world
makes himself an enemy of God.”
There will be no world peace until Jesus returns and vanquishes evil. If we are still friends with the world, we are not at peace with God. Don’t celebrate with the world what God hates, or cloud His way of salvation. That’s not what a friend of God would do.
Lord, thank You for the Prince of Peace! Please move in the hearts of many to leave friendship with the world, and choose peace with You through Jesus Christ.
